In 1934, the Hollywood industry was fitted with a pair of handcuffs.

For decades, American movies had run riot, bringing audiences' dreams and fantasies to life for

the screen, however wholesome, or however sordid.

To modern audiences, early cinema is often seen as quaint, non-threatening, unadventurous, innocent.

But the cinema of the 1930s and 1940s tenderly refer to nowadays as Hollywood's golden age

was built on the bones of another generation of cinema, an era of films and filmmaking

that for almost half a century, the censors tried to suppress.

Lads and lasses, forget your dancing classes, forget your old professors while you take a bit of

advice. A free-spirited time where Hollywood's imagination ran free, and anything was permitted.
