Pope Francis has called to Rome bishops from all over the world for a synod on the family.

But this isn't your average conference.

Nearly 300 celibate men in dresses

will spend three weeks debating their church's rules

on sex and the family.

All the discussions will take place behind closed doors.

I'm Helen Grady and I've come to Rome with one goal to find out what's happening inside the Synod.

Can I open the doors as the world's oldest organization confronts the kind of divisions

Last week I was in Kenya where most believers want their bishops to uphold tradition.

No guests should be around in the church.

Not even allowed to set foot in there.

Not even the society.
