Summary

God uses Amos to prophecy to the kingdom of Israel about the impending judgment that will come upon them. God says He will send a famine on the land – not a famine of bread or water, but a famine of “hearing the words of the LORD”. As believers, we can easily see the effects of spiritual famine nationally and globally in our day, but sometimes it’s difficult to spot spiritual famine in our own lives. 1:06.1	Amos chapter 8, seven signs of spiritual famine.
1:09.1	Now before we get to Amos the book, a few things about Amos, the man.
1:13.9	Amos was a prophet in the southern kingdom of Judah.
1:18.0	But God calls him to speak a prophetic word to the northern kingdom of Israel.
1:25.0	Amos prophesied around the year 750 BC. At the time of Isaiah's prophecy,
1:31.2	the nation of Israel is split into two kingdoms. There was a civil war in the nation of Israel.
1:36.5	And so now you have the southern kingdom of Judah and the northern kingdom of Israel. Amos is
1:42.9	a prophet in the southern kingdom of Judah, but God calls him to speak
1:47.3	impending judgment upon the northern kingdom of Israel. Amos is his name in the Hebrew means
1:54.3	burden or burden bearer. He's from a small village to Coa.
2:08.0	It's a small village about 10 miles south of the capital city of Jerusalem.
2:10.7	And Amos, he was a regular guy.
