Daily Boost Podcast Show Notes Seven Old-School Rules That Beat Modern BS August 4, 2025 | Episode 5151 Host: Scott Smith Episode Description Scott's fired up and ready to shake up your Monday with seven old-school rules that'll shift your perspective on happiness and success. No tactical nonsense today – just pure mindset gold that'll get you moving forward instead of staying stuck in preparation mode. From ditching the "getting ready" excuses to learning when to give monkeys the boot, Scott delivers his signature blend of wisdom and wit. Plus, he shares why patting yourself on the butt might be the motivation hack you never knew you needed. Featured Story Scott kicks off with a weekend motorcycle mishap that turned into a 99-degree disaster in Florida heat. What started as a wild hair idea to ride 40 miles in 112-degree heat index became a lesson in environmental awareness and listening to your wife's wisdom. The story perfectly sets up his main message: sometimes we need to slow down when things get bumpy, but never stop moving forward. It's classic Scott – turning a sweaty mistake into motivation gold. Important Points Stop "fixing to get ready" and take action on what matters to you right now, because if it was truly important, you'd find a way to do it anyway. Ask for help from real people who've walked your path before, not just AI that gives you affirmation bias disguised as brilliant advice. Practice daily PYOTB (Pat Yourself On The Back) because you're your own best cheerleader, and nobody can pump you up better than you can. Memorable Quotes "Stop fixing to get ready. If you want something, there is no reason to put it off." "Don't give monkeys piggyback rides. Monkeys can walk. Monkeys can fly." "You're your own best cheerleader. There is nobody on this planet who can pump you up more than you can." Scott's Three-Step Approach Identify one thing you've been "fixing to get ready" for and take the first action step today, no matter how small. Find someone who's already accomplished what you want and ask them for specific advice instead of relying on AI or guessing. Establish your own daily PYOTB routine by literally patting yourself on the back or butt and saying "I done good" to anchor positive momentum. The podcast you're going to hear today wasn't the one I recorded. I recorded another one. It came in at almost 20 minutes long. And I

1:27.7

normally go for 10 minutes, but it wasn't that. It was like over the top, in your face, fun, upbeat, a little bit, maybe controversial, really good stuff. And I got up Sunday morning and my wife said, are you going to do that thing? You did? And I said, I don't think so. So I'm checking. I'm running. I'm not going to

1:44.8

make you do it today, okay? But we're going to do a little shorter, but give you some mindset work today. It's not a tip and trick thing, but some stuff you really need to think about. Because what you're seeking is not found in a list of do this, do that, do this. It's how you think. It's what you believe, all stuff like that. So we'll talk about that a little bit today. Okay.

Thank you for stopping by. Yeah, it's kind of kind of scared me a little bit. If you know me

2:07.2

you know that I've got a couple different sides to me. I get very dramatic. I can get very emotional. I get extremely funny. I can get political. I can go right at you. Sharp as a knife in so many

ways. And that's really nothing we need to do here on the daily basis. So I'll try to pull back on that a little bit. If you want more of that, you got to get on a private call with me. And I'll give it to you there. I promise you that. But I just felt bad about doing it. But I did. I was talking a little bit about a friend this morning about that. I was at church. And I said, I go back and make a podcast. I said, what are you going to

2:34.9

redo it for? I said, well, I just had too much energy. He said, well, where are you getting the energy from? Good questions, right? So I thought I'd share it with you. Here's the energy. I, um, a ways back, I looked at a lot of things that were around me. I want to walk my talk. I want to always walk my talk with you. I want to do what I say, what I advise you to do, I do. And I said, there's some things about my business I didn't like. Didn't like the way the algorithms are going. Didn't like some of the people that were coming into my world. I know I'm supposed to be positive and upbeat, but they were just evil. They were not nice people. I said, I don't want to do that anymore. So I started making the changes and slowly getting rid of the toxic people that had kind of come from the Internet, that kind of stuff. Focus on good people, nice people, people thought like me. I said, you know, I'm getting older too, even though middle age is now 60 to 80, so I guess I'm still right in the middle of the game. I said, I want to keep my sharpness. I don't want to keep my sense of humor.

Obviously, not far from, very far from losing that right now.
