0:17.0	I am excited about starting a new series about the discipleship journey.
0:21.6	And I want to know, Pastor Joby, is the legend true?
0:24.9	Did this start on a napkin?
0:27.6	Yes, because the idea was I was thinking, I want to be able to communicate this so that a disciple group leader could sit down with somebody and say, all right, here's what our discipleship journey is, you know?
0:44.6	We're a movement for all people to discover and deepen our relationship with Jesus.
0:48.7	Originally, there was a heart in the cross, but people said it looked too girly, but I still like it better.
0:52.6	And then you could just be like loves, loves deepens and discovers, you know?
0:57.1	And then you can ask a few diagnostic questions.
1:00.3	And in fact, on the website in the early days, it was written on a napkin with a pen beside it.
1:05.3	So that the idea is that a discipler could sit down with a disciple and help them figure out what their next step of obedience is.
1:15.6	And you've talked before about the shape being intentionally non-linear or progressive.
1:22.4	It's not like one, it's not step one, two, three.
1:24.7	So, I mean, a lot of this, you know, Rick Warren with the purpose-driven church had a baseball diamond, which made a lot of sense. It was really good, and they had classes at Saddleback, and the idea was, like, stepping up into the batter's box was, like, showing up for the very first time, and you would go from first base to second base to the base to home. And they had these classes, 101, 201, 201, 201, 4-01.
1:48.5	The problem I had with that, though, is not everybody seems to start at the right place.
1:54.4	Like, I was just talking in Washington tonight, and that joker was serving before he was a Christian.
2:01.5	And so in the baseball model, you can't start on third base.
2:05.4	You got to get saved, then you got to go to like groups, and then you serve, you know.
2:09.4	And so I just don't think discipleship is as linear as some people make it.
