If you have your Bibles, Matthew Chapter 5, we are going to begin a series this weekend for the next three weekends on servanthood and serving.

I'm going to preach to Elisa and Kevin. Okay. You know, well, let me just pray. Father,

we come to you. We come to your word. We know that it's alive. We know that it's active. We honor your word in our midst, in our hearts. We submit our lives. We submit our thoughts, our beliefs about ourselves, our beliefs about you. We submit them this morning to your precious word.

Holy Spirit, would you illuminate, would you illuminate the words to us, the seeds of the kingdom

that were intended to bear much fruit in our lives? Would you awaken us where we have fallen

asleep? Would you bind our hearts up where we have

been broken? Lord, would you bring clarity to where we cannot see? Give us salve for our eyes. Give us real

gold refined by fire. Give us real garments made white by your blood.

Lord, unify us.

Unify us in the spirit.

God, around the heart behind serving.

Give us hearts.

Lord, sons and daughters who serve.

Give us the heart.

Lord, we ask you for the heart, not just for the form, but for the heart.

And so we give you our hearts this morning, the best we know how we present them to you and to your word. In Jesus' name. Amen. Amen. Let's just hop in here because I have a lot of

scriptures. Matthew chapter 5 verse 41. Matthew 5 verse 41.

This is in the Sermon on the Mount and Jesus says this, and if anyone forces you to go one

mile, go with him two miles.

Now, contextually, what would happen to Jews, they would be minding their own business,

going about their life, and a Roman soldier could compel or require a Jewish citizen to carry his equipment, his

military equipment for a mile.
