Open your Bible, if you will, to Mark chapter 8.

As we start this new series on the lies that Christians believe, one need only to turn on the television and listen for a while

at the latest, most popular preacher, depending on what channel you land on, it seems,

that it appears in some seminaries they're teaching the preachers that God is more concerned with your

happiness than your holiness. They seem to be more concerned with your prosperity than your purity.

And what we want us to understand today is as we open up the scriptures and as we look at his word,

it is very clear that what God intended for his son, he also intends for us.

That's why we're called Christians.

It means little Christ's, Christ followers.

And thus if God called his own son to suffer for the sake of his name, if God called

his own son to go through trials and hardships in order to make his name known, in order to

accomplish the purpose, then why would we possibly begin to think that he would call us to

anything less? Let's look at Mark chapter 8, and I think we will see in this text a very clear

teaching of God's truth and really uncovering the lies that many Christians believe. In Mark

8, beginning in verse verse 31 it says this,

he then began to teach them that the son of man must suffer many things and be rejected by the

elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and that after

three days rise again. He spoke plainly about this and Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him.

But when Jesus turned and looked at his disciples, he rebuked Peter. Get behind me, Satan, he said.
