Summary

Roxanne Pallett has been cast (and since left) Celebrity Island since our last record (exploitative, much?) and Hurricane Florence is heading towards the USA. Meanwhile, 2 more people have attempted to make bookings at The High Low hotel. Our towels must be reeeeeally soft, or something.

Today, we discuss Serena Williams’s epic tantrum at the US Open final - and how it overshadowed Naomi Osaka’s first Grand Slam win. The most interesting part of the narrative isn’t the tantrum, itself: but how it’s culturally metabolised.

And another woman in trouble getting angry is Kirstie Allsopp who recently admitted to smashing her kids iPad in fury, after they wouldn’t stop playing computer games. She’s quit Twitter, amidst the furore and her parenting - and privilege - is now under scrutiny. We chew over the makings of a modern-day Twitter storm and wonder if parenting and social media are destined for trouble.

Welcome to episode 68 of The Highloat. The weekly news and pop culture podcast brought

0:20.4

to you by journalist Dolly Alderton and Pandora Sykes. Thank you so much for the very kind

0:25.6

welcome back. It was our most downloaded episode of all time. I particularly liked all the gifts on

0:31.5

Twitter that we were linked into. We have a very Mimi listenership which makes me happy or as a

0:37.7

Meme as Dolly Alderton or you get that from Gemma Colour. The JC. The JC. Speaking of Dominoes

0:44.8

are regretting some quite Mimi behaviour right now aren't they? Yes it's my favourite piece

0:49.1

of breaking news this week. Dominoes Russia has had to retract a promotion that promised

0:54.8

free peaches for life to anyone who gets a Dominoes logo tattoo and has photographic evidence of it

1:01.7

and they had to cap the number at 350 participants as a surprising amount of people were willing to get

1:08.5

tattooed for some free stuffed crust. Other talking points this week further to last week's

1:13.8

discussion Roxanne Palette went on and has since left celebrity island after saying that the camp

1:19.8

fire reminded her of a house fire she was in when she was six. Who the hell is advising this woman?

1:26.3

Can you believe that she was on to that show in the in the times that's been recorded the last episode?

1:31.6

She cannot win that quote unquote whatever showbiz reputation that her management are trying to

1:37.4

cling onto and it's painful to watch from a psychological point of view. I really thought of what

1:42.9

you said last week Dolly about why did the producers cast her with celebrity big brother. At least you

1:47.8

could argue that they might not have foreseen what would happen celebrity island knew how vulnerable

1:51.7

she was and I think they should be criticized for casting her because it's gross and so

1:56.0

patently exploited in a green. In much more serious news the US is preparing for a devastating

2:02.0

hurricane named Florence. A million people have been instructed to evacuate the coasts of states

2:07.2

including South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia as the 340 mile long Florence described as a

2:13.1

monster travels towards the US for an expected arrival time of Friday morning. What's in the mail
