Defenses are going to find it impossibly difficult to slow down the Patriots offense in 2017,

even without Julian Edelman who went down for the season with an ACL entry during the preseason.

Tom Brady has too many weapons at his disposal.

So how did the Chiefs plan on slowing down those weapons in the NFL regular season opener

by dropping eight men into coverage and rushing only three against five Patriot blockers.

You don't do that against a smart patient quarterback like Brady.

And you certainly don't do it against a QB like Brady playing behind one of the better

offensive lines of the league.

The results weren't surprising.

Brady had time to make a sandwich in the pocket during the first half. With all that time, the best quarterback in the league had no problem leading the Patriots on three scoring drives during the first 23 minutes of the game. And then he says, the Chiefs will have to adjust if the defense has any chance of keeping the team in the game. Why is it still up there? I don't know. You wake up this morning, you look at that if you fell asleep, and you're like, oh, okay, well, the Patriots.

And that's still up there on the front page. Yeah, and I like how one of the best offensive lines in the league, all right, you know, okay, if you want to say that. But second, they certainly didn't play like last night. Top half, maybe back into the top ten. Sure, fine. Why not? So technically one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. Then why would you want to rush one and three? What, what is, what is that the

Costas, too, how much of Kansas City success, and they looked great at times on defense against

that Patriots offense, I mean, Brady was 16 of 36, they have good pass rushers, but most importantly, they have very good cover guys in the secondary. The teams that the Patriots run into week after week are not going to be as good in the secondary as Kansas City is. They're not going to be able to handle Gruncowski one-on-one. Edge rushers, not as good as what Kansas City has.

But, John, they didn't use edge rushers until the end of the game. No, I understand it. That was the closer. Justin Houston was the closer last night. Right. But they have linebackers that can cover, you know, they can cover in coverage. Personnel is going to be a little different. and as I said, the Patriots, maybe the first few weeks, it doesn't look good, but they'll figure this out. Okay. I mean, they will. I mean, they're certainly not going to miss the playoffs. They're certainly not going to lose their division. They might go undefeated in the division. Still, though, it was a terrible effort last night, and a team that, as Brady stated after the game,

and I was unaware of that when I came in this morning, but as Brady stated after the game,

a bad attitude, it's a team that bought the hype.
