I'm Leah Lain-Dirtz, author of The Almanac, a seasonal guide,

and this podcast is a collaboration between myself and Fern,

makers of small batch organic perfume.

The harvest moon rises fat and golden,

while down on the ground,

onion skins turn papery and their shoots grow yellow,

announcing the harvest.

In the still muggy greenhouse,

obegines are black and shiny and dripping clusters of tomatoes grow heavy with juice,

the glass misting up against the cooling air beyond.

Apples lie on the wet lawn, turning the air sidery in the low sun.

The orchards keeper selects three, carefully turning them for wasps, stretches a hand wide to

hold them, and thinks ahead to the cooling evening and the first apple crumble of the year.

Rains have swelled the greenery and perked up the late flowers.
