And I'm Anna Palmer. This is kind of rare. At the beginning of this week, it seemed like the drama in Washington had ratcheted up to code red levels.

The government was on the brink of shutdown. Ruth Bader Ginsburg had recently passed away,

and Congress was facing the prospect of a brutal election season confirmation fight.

But all of the sudden, in one day Congress and the Trump administration struck a deal to fund government until December 11th,

removing the threat of a shutdown.

The House cleared that bill last night. Sarah Ferris,

Caitlin Emma, and Heather Kegel had all of the details. Mitch McConnell corralled the support of 50

of his colleagues to leave Republicans on the brink of a floor vote to confirm a Supreme Court

justice just weeks before an election. Sungman Kim, who owns the judge's beat for the post,

as Lindsay Graham is looking at holding hearings the week of October 12th.

Congress has basically abandoned COVID relief talks with 200,000 people dead, thousand sick in the economy teetering.

No back and forth between the White House, no shuttle negotiations.

The drama, for the moment, at least, has faded to black.

Coronavirus continues to rage.

The AP is reporting that 200,000 are dead as Trump vilifies science and prioritizes politics.

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that thousands of American troops are taking part in a COVID-19 early detection study.

And there are 41 days until the election.
