0:00.0	Today is day two and I'll be reading John chapters four through six in the new living
0:06.8	translation and we are on page 25 of the Let's Read the Gospel's

0:21.8	John 4. Jesus knew the Pharisees had heard that he was baptizing and making more disciples than John, though Jesus himself didn't
0:23.8	baptize them, his disciples did. So he left Judea and returned to Galilee. He had to go
0:29.1	through Samaria on the way. Eventually he came to the Samaritan village of
0:32.8	Sicar near the field that Jacob gave his son Joseph. Jacob's well was there and
0:37.4	Jesus tired from the long walk sat wearily beside the well about noontime.
0:45.2	Soon a Samaritan woman came to draw water and Jesus said to her, please give me a drink. He was alone at the time because his disciples
0:50.9	had gone into the village to buy some food.
0:53.7	The woman was surprised for Jews refused to have anything to do with Samaritans.
0:58.4	She said to Jesus, you are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman.
1:02.3	Why are you asking me for a drink?
1:05.0	Jesus replied, if you only knew the gift God has for you and who you are speaking to,
1:10.0	you would ask me and I would give you living water.
1:13.0	But sir, you don't have a rope or a bucket, she said, and this well is very deep.
1:18.0	Where would you get this living water?
1:21.0	And besides, do you think you're greater than our ancestor
1:23.8	Jacob who gave us this well? How can you offer better water than he and his
1:28.1	sons and his animals enjoyed? Jesus replied, anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again, but those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again.
1:38.0	It becomes a fresh bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.
1:43.0	Please, sir, the woman said,
