0:00.0	Hi friends I'm Annie F Downs. Let's read the Gospels. The Gospels are the first four books of the New Testament in the Bible, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. These are the stories of Jesus Christ's life on earth, the friendships, the
0:13.9	sacrifices, the meals, the miracles. So here is how it works. I'll read three
0:18.4	chapters to you. You can listen or read along in your own Bible or online and
0:22.3	then I'll pray and that's it. or read along in your own Bible or online,
0:22.5	and then I'll pray, and that's it.
0:24.7	Today is day 17, and I will be reading Mark,
0:27.5	chapters 4 through 6 in the New Living Translation.

0:37.0	Mark 4. Once again Jesus began teaching by the lake shore. A very large crowd
0:48.1	soon gathered around him so he got into a
0:53.4	boat then he sat in the boat while all the people remained on the shore he taught them by telling many
0:56.0	stories in the form of parables such as this one listen a farmer went out to
1:02.1	plant some seed.
1:03.2	As he scattered it across his field, some of the seed fell on a footpath
1:07.0	and the birds came and ate it.
1:08.8	Other seed fell on shallow soil with underlying rock. The seed sprouted quickly because the soil was shallow,
1:16.3	but the plant soon wilted under the hot sun and since it didn't have deep roots it died.
1:21.8	Other seed fell among thorns that grew up and choked out the tender plants so they
1:26.2	produced no grain. Still other seeds fell on fertile soil and they sprouted, grew, and produced a crop. that was 30, 60, and even a hundred times as much as had been planted.
1:37.0	Then he said, anyone with ears to hear should listen and understand.
1:42.0	Later when Jesus was alone with the 12 disciples and
1:44.9	with the others who were gathered around they asked him what the parables meant.
