Twenty-four saw record homelessness in the U.S.

The fastest growing group seniors.

People aged 50 and older have grown from about 10% of the homeless population in the early 1990s to half in the 2020s.

That's according to research from the University

of California, San Francisco. Estimates find that the population of older adults experiencing

homelessness could nearly triple in big cities by 2030. Housing affordability, rising costs,

and fixed incomes are all contributing to the increase. And many in this older population

are experiencing homelessness for the first time. It's something some of you are concerned about.

I look at my retirement savings and wonder if down the road I'm going to be able to continue

to keep my house. It's unnerving.

You retire, and it's supposed to be the golden years.

And in all honesty, it's the scary years.

President Trump's budget plan would cut rental assistance by about 40 percent and eliminate Section 8 housing and other voucher programs.

And legislation critical to President Trump's agenda could contribute to the growing problem

of senior homelessness.

Congress is currently considering putting safety net programs like Medicaid on the chopping

block.

Why is the spike so dramatic now?

And how can this vulnerable population be protected?
