It is a grim anniversary tonight. Three years ago today, Russian forces on Vladimir Putin's orders invaded Ukraine.

An operation that Putin reportedly expected would take just a few days. He was wrong.

Ukrainian forces fought back hard, and with American and European countries' help, they've been

able to continue fighting back. But that American support is now in jeopardy and is putting America's

historic nearly 80-year relationship with Europe under serious strain. That was the backdrop and perhaps even the

stakes for today's White House visit by Francis President Emmanuel Macron, and will certainly be the

same when British Prime Minister Kier Starrmer arrives Thursday. Perhaps the most striking way of

viewing those stakes is through the words of their counterpart, the man who's likely to be Germany's
