Summary

Now it feels like the offseason is here as the NHL & the Detroit Red Wings have quieted down (for now).

Tune in as we update you on how the Winged Wheel Podcast will slow down for the summer (we're still going to be here weekly!) (0:00) before we jump into a discussion on Michael Brandsegg-Nygard's development path, whether he'll join Axel Sandin Pellikka in Skelleftea in the SHL or join the likes of Nate Danielson, Marco Kasper, Carter Mazur, and others in competing for a Detroit Red Wings or Grand Rapids Griffins spot in the AHL (5:05).

After that, we loop in on the Steve Yzerman & Moritz Seider / Lucas Raymond contract negotiations, what the prospective term and AAV may be, how lessons from Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner, & Kyle Dubas in Toronto loom large, how these future stars affect the rest of Detroit's talent like Dylan Larkin, Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane, Simon Edvinsson, & more (13:10).

Next, a quick update on Jacob Trouba (28:20) before we take a look at the Detroit Red Wings prospective lineup, where the weaknesses are as Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko may be playing with J.T. Compher, Chiarot, Seider, Johansson, & others moving around on defense, all in front of a flurry of goalies in Lyon, Talbot, Husso, & others (31:15).

Finally, a quick discussion on the salary cap and no income tax states (& Barry Trotz's comments) (41:45) before we take your questions and comments during our Overtime segment (53:40) - enjoy!

It's about that time of year.

We typically have a really good feel for when we have to go down to one episode a week and

0:27.0

you know as we were prepping for this episode it was kind of just all looking at each other going yeah

0:36.0

It all fell off a cliff real fast. The NHL did us no favors because draft re-agency, else was compressed into like what two three

0:46.4

episodes when it's usually double that it was a hundred to zero very very quick yeah

0:51.4

but hey it's funny saying this right now, but the low news time of the year is a good time for everyone to take a break and we still have stuff to talk about with the Red Wings and who knows maybe this goes Steve

midweek. We're like 80 days away from the start of the next season by the

1:12.0

way.

1:13.0

I know the other day Mel said to me like blah blah blah we have to plan this

1:16.6

it's already mid-July and I looked at her I said never say that to me again

1:19.2

please. That's disgusting. To me summer is just starting now. I agree. We blinked and June happened. In any

1:27.9

case the Wing Wheel podcast isn't going away. It's just slowing down a

1:32.0

little bit. So what's happening from here on out is we are going to be recording episodes once a week, our usual weekend time slot, unless something causes us to move it. Midweek episodes are going to be reserved for Patreon exclusive

1:45.1

content and those are bonus episodes that we record. It's not the same as

1:49.1

overtime episodes. We usually kind of pick a topic, have fun.

1:53.0

You know, in the past we've done redrafts of previous draft years.

1:56.7

We argue about the salary cap.

1:58.5

It's a little bit more evergreen content and it's a lot more laid back fun and we actually have some other plans for

2:04.8

patron exclusive content and off season content for the windwheel
