Summary

Today we begin a brand new week of devotionals, creating space every day for God to transform us more and more into his likeness. And in today’s devotional, we’re starting with a broader view, looking at what it means to truly seek transformation. May God do a mighty work in our hearts this week as we make room for his presence every day.

Our Scripture for today comes from Psalm 51:10, and today's worship is Graves Into Gardens by Elevation Worship.

If you’ve wrestled with making Bible study a consistent habit of spiritual formation, A Light Unto My Path will inspire and encourage you to drink more deeply from the unending well that is the Bible.

A Light Unto My Path will answer these 7 critical questions:

  • Why do we read the Bible?
  • How was the Bible created?
  • Why do we need to interpret the Bible?
  • What is the Bible about?
  • What are the best tools for studying the Bible?
  • What can I learn from others?
  • How can I learn for myself?

I love that the goal of this book is not to learn more about the Bible (even though you will), but to better understand the Bible as one of the primary ways God seeks to have a relationship with us today.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

1:08.6

As humans burdened and suffering from both our sins and the fallen nature of the world around us. We are in desperate need of transformation.

1:14.1

We're in desperate need of help from a God who has the power to not just clean us up on the

1:19.5

outside, but to transform us at the core of who we are. But this God doesn't force transformation on us. He works when we make space for him

1:31.8

to do so. If we're going to experience the freedom, joy, and purpose that can only come from the

1:39.1

inner working of the Holy Spirit, we must be those who seek transformation. Psalm 51, 10 through 12 says,

1:49.9

create me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your

1:57.1

presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation,

2:04.7

and uphold me with a willing spirit. Here in Psalm 51, David exemplifies the heart of one who seeks

2:14.3

transformation. He models for us a posture of humility

2:18.7

that will lead to powerful encounters

2:21.2

with God's transformative love.

2:24.3

He doesn't sit back and merely live with that which plagues him,

2:28.6

but goes to God with his problems that he might be changed.

2:38.9

David begins as we all shed, and asking for God to do a mighty work in his heart. And in this act of asking God to create in him a clean heart, David opens himself up

2:47.3

to receive the powerful work of the Holy Spirit.

2:58.6

To receive transformation from God, we have to come before him humbly and honestly that he might have space to do the impossible in our lives.

3:04.1

Often, we spend a majority of our efforts trying to convince others and ourselves that we don't need help.
