This past spring, I was hiking for several days in the majestic pageantry of the Redwood

Forests in Northern California.

The deep canyons and towering trees of Yosemite brought dark shadows across the trail much

earlier than I imagined, and every afternoon, I remembered to keep my headlamp close by

for when my path grew unexpectedly dark.

It was so comforting watching my headlamp light the path before me, not a far distance

down the trail.

In fact, only a few steps ahead, but I felt secure that at least by next few steps would

be secure on steady ground.

This meditation from Psalm 119 is about a guiding light, not an artificial light, but the

eternal guiding light of God.

A light without the need of batteries, a light always available, a light always there to

guide.

So to begin, whether the first light of morning or the last light of sunset, allow the

next 15 minutes to be a retreat, to contemplate the guiding light of God in his word.
