0:15.6	What's the difference between First and Second Chronicles? Any guesses? Well, the answer is that there isn't a
0:21.1	difference. Sorry for the trick question.
0:23.4	But it's important to know that even though you may have noticed
0:26.7	that we started a new book of the Bible this morning,
0:29.0	when this book was originally written,
0:31.2	we would have just been right in the middle of one larger scroll.
0:35.8	The separation of these books as we know them was just done for convenience in reading
0:40.0	them.
0:41.0	But what we know as Second Chronicles 1 does signal the start of a new part of the story
0:47.6	that the author of First and Second Chronicles is writing.
0:51.3	Now if you remember, the of chronicles were written to the Jewish community who had
0:56.2	returned to Jerusalem after their time in exile. So this is a group of people who have forgotten
1:01.9	who they are. The city they're living in looks nothing like it used to. They have no king, no majestic temple to worship in. This is a people group desperately needing to regain who they are as the people of God and as a nation.
1:16.7	And so, the author of these books is writing to meet a need.
1:21.5	He's writing to remind the people of their history and to show them their
1:25.5	God who has been faithful in the past and will be faithful to the promises he made to them.
1:31.5	Now in the first book of Chronicles there was a large focus on King David and the
1:36.2	promise God made to him to establish a king from his line who would reign forever.
1:41.1	And in the second book we turn away from King David and begin to
1:46.0	trace his lineage in search of the promised Messianic King. Now spoiler alert as we continue throughout the book, we will follow David's line.
