Peter is well known for his books, his activism, and today we're joining him to discuss some of his work recently in Brazil, as well as to contextualize what's going on politically in the year of 2025. So we talked about his work working alongside locals in exploring effective grassroots responses to the

ecological crises going on in the global south. While so much of contemporary mainstream

environmentalism focuses on green growth and stuff like state-led summits, Peter's work really

helps highlight how these frameworks have historically failed to address the root problems of these crises and what we can actually do to be successful.

So we jump into a bunch of these different stories and experiences and reflect on what's happened in the last couple of years since we'd spoken last.

really exciting. We've gone back and forth about it. I guess before we even get into what it is,

tell me how you got involved with some of the activity

going on in Brazil.

Yeah. Well, first off, thanks so much for having me on your show again.

Over the last few years, I've worked on a number of different projects with a couple of different

comrades in Brazil who, you know, over time, became friends as we worked together on different things, one of

those projects was the book that came out in 2022.

The solutions are already here, strategies for ecological revolution from below.

Folks who have looked through that book know that a huge part of the book is long-form interviews

with people all around the world,

talking about different struggles, both to stop extremely ecocidal projects from large airports

to, you know, oil and gas pipelines, you know, deforestation, other things like that, as well as projects and struggles that

are creating alternatives for how we can, you know, address the imposed scarcity of capitalism,

how we can get ourselves healthy food, housing, medical care, how we can get the police
