I'm Sheila Dylan.

And today we're taking you into a part of the food world that few of us get to see.

It's an ancient part of the food system that recently brought us a nearly unfaltering supply of fruits and salads and vegetables

while the supermarkets ran dry, the hidden world of fresh produce wholesale markets. I hope you enjoy it.

I don't know about you, but what struck me about the empty supermarket shells recently

was the contrasting abundance of

salads and veg available in local shops. I saw it all over the place I'm sure you

did but particularly I saw it in the greengrocer I rely on around the corner from my house, not far from Arsenal's Football Stadium in London.

While supplies ran low and then out in several supermarkets near me, here in seasons and blossoms,

there was no shortage of salad veg or anything else.

And I'm in the shot now with part owner and manager Rosie Phipps.

So, I mean, we're standing really by your always extremely full and varied tomato shelf. you buy your stuff mostly from wholesale markets.
