Today's tip is that summer Fridays aren't just for summer.

Deciding that you and your team members will mindfully work a shorter day on Fridays

can make everyone happier and more efficient too.

Back before working from home became more common. Lots of organizations gave employees a perk

known as summer Fridays. From Memorial Day to Labor Day in the U.S., offices would close

around 1 p.m. on Fridays. The idea was that lots of people liked to take off for summer weekend

trips. So many people were going to be drifting out early anyway. Better to acknowledge it and

account for it and keep people happy since they don't have to use vacation days so often.

Then have a lot of mysteriously canceled 3 p.m. Friday meetings.

I think it's a smart idea but there's no reason that summer Fridays should just

happen in the summer. Most people who work a Monday to Friday schedule are starting to drift

toward the weekend by Friday afternoon. It's just hard to start anything new.

People are generally trying to wrap up loose ends and get out on time. They're tired.
