Today's tip is to respect other people by respecting their preferences. In other words, don't yak a yum.

Today's tip comes from something I have heard a number of folks who encourage adventurous eating tell children.

Don't yak somebody's yum.

In other words, don't describe what someone else loves as gross.

Allow people to enjoy what they enjoy.

And if your opinion doesn't enhance their enjoyment, well, you can just keep it to yourself.

If you have been at a table with the under 10 set recently, I don't have to tell you how quickly dinner conversation devolves.

After one child announces that something is gross.

Perhaps another child might have been willing to try broccoli or fish or avocado or whatever.

They might even find these things yummy.

But when someone else deems the food gross, it is a lot harder to encourage exploration.

So don't yak someone else's yum.

Just because you don't like a food doesn't mean that you need to share this opinion with the world.

It turns out that this rule brings harmony to context besides the dinner table.

And also, not just for children.
