Welcome to the Before Breakfast Podcast. Today's tip is to build it before you need it.

If you have a good support system in place, far fewer woes, turn it to disasters.

Longtime listeners know that I have five children, and any working parent soon learns that even

the best child care won't be 100% available. Your babysitter can get sick or have her own family

emergencies. Your kid might be slightly sick and thus not able to go to school or daycare.

Schools can close for weather, and sometimes there are half days for various reasons.

You need backup options. The absolute worst time to be figuring out the backup option is when

you realize that option A is not available at 7.30 a.m., and you are giving a presentation to an

important group of people at 8.30 a.m. You need to create a backup system at a time when you don't

need it. So it will be available when you do need it. So it goes for many things in life.

The whole point of an emergency fund is to put away cash when you don't desperately need it,

so that when you do need money, you don't have to borrow it high interest rates.

The worst time to be networking and figuring out who in your industry is hiring is when you have

just lost a job. You want to have those connections in place before you need them.
