We're swinging into the holiday season, a really important time of year for arts organizations who rely on big crowds to come through the doors for holiday shows.

But Seattle's holiday arts scene is so much more than the Nutcracker.

Ring will be sworn into Council position 8, a citywide seat. She'll serve just over a year

in the role, which is up for election again in November 2025.

On the council, Rink will serve as chair of the Sustainability, City Life, and Arts and Culture Committee.

One of the first items Mercedes Rink will vote on is the city's legislative

agenda. It's a set of priorities that Seattle officials will push for in Olympia when the state

legislature begins its work next year. The list includes getting rid of the current 1% cap on

property tax increases, one way the city hopes to address its budget challenges, also

a long list of public safety priorities, like allowing cities to set their own gun violence

prevention laws and increasing funding for pedestrian safety features. And heads up, it's going to be
