Man, it was eerily and uncomfortably quiet at MedStar Capital's Iceplex today.

It was supposed to be a game day skate for game one of round two against the Islanders.

Instead, it was locker cleanout day and exit interviews as the Caps season comes to an end after game seven's loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.

And really going back to last year's memorable run all the way through the Stanley Cup,

you're so wrapped up in it,

where every day you wake up and you're thinking about our coverage, you're thinking about the injuries, you're thinking about the matchups, and then for it to end, just like that, it's so sudden, it's kind of hard to wrap your arms around. It is, and all the years that I've done this and worked with this team, last year was the greatest ever. And what happens, normally it was a two-round, death blow in the playoffs. And it was, you know, never really had that confidence. There's no way that I would have thought them winning the Metropolitan Division this year and then playing the Carolina Hurricanes, who were a tough matchup during the season, but they were the second wild card or the highest wildcard seating to get in. I did not think that they would lose to them the way they have. So this one is probably more shocking and hurtful than all the other years when you look at it. And we should be getting ready on F Street right now and be doing our pregame show for one hour and then running into the building and making sure that we're not missing anything. That seems like what we should be doing. Unfortunately, we're not. We'll get to what went

wrong really in game six and game seven of that first round series against Carolina. But first,

let's just take a minute here to kind of soak in what we were all a part of for the last

year and a half because it has been a long time since

we felt this sort of empty feeling in the pit of your stomach because last year was so fun

and we've talked about what your best moments of that run I think mine has changed a little bit

I'll get to that in second what was your most memorable moment of the cup year well I just think

that old vetskin being so defiant after they lost the first two games and then

they win that Columbus game.

But it all goes back to all of a sudden the belief crept in everywhere after game six

in Pittsburgh.

When they won that game and when they played that series so decisively, and after that,

there was the first time they ever believed that they were going to win the Stanley Cup,

and ultimately that led to last June 7th, and everyone to being able to lift that thing,
