Summary
Since last we spoke, Congress counted the votes of the Electoral College, some members of Congress objected to that same vote, rioters stormed the Capitol, a new president was inaugurated, and a former president was impeached. In this 2021 season premiere, Senator Ted Cruz and Michael Knowles dust off their microphones to break down what the hell has been happening and make a few predictions about what Biden’s America will look like. Plus, Michael welcomes his first son into the world and Senator Cruz turns 50. Welcome back to Verdict!

| 0:00.0 | One of the big issues in this whole objection January 6th issue was, what is the function of |
| 0:07.6 | the vice president who's acting as the president of the Senate? What is his function in the counting |
| 0:11.9 | of the electoral votes? Does he have some active role? Is he merely reading them? Does the Senate? |
| 0:16.4 | What does the Senate do? What does the House do? And the same issue came up in the compromise of |
| 0:20.2 | 1877, which is you had one, the Republican Party had one view of the vice president's role. |
| 0:26.0 | The Democrats had another view, depending on which way it worked out, that could have thrown the |
| 0:30.0 | election. And so you end up with this bizarre sort of electoral commission that would then go |
| 0:35.8 | forward and decide the election. That's right. And as I was looking at that, what initially struck me |
| 0:42.8 | was just the weirdness of five House members, five senators, five Supreme Court justices. I was like, |

| 0:53.8 | I wanted a third option. |
| 1:01.6 | Welcome back to verdict with Ted Cruz. I have missed all of you. Thank you so much to everyone |
| 1:07.0 | who's been writing in asking where is verdict. We are back. It's been kind of hectic. Initially, |
| 1:11.5 | it was just because of Christmas. Then it's because of children popping out everywhere, mostly in my |
| 1:16.9 | family, Senator, I don't think there are any new kids going on by you. And of course, the madness |
| 1:21.3 | that we've seen in Washington, DC, which frankly resembles Baghdad these days, all of the lockdowns, |
| 1:27.7 | all of the heightened tensions. Senator, that's good to see you again. Let me say to all our viewers, |
| 1:34.2 | it's good to be back with you. In addition to everything, Michael listed that has happened. We |
| 1:38.2 | also had Christmas. We had New Year's. I turned 50 years old. And you, Michael, became a father. |
| 1:45.6 | Simon John Knowles, your son, came into the world. And so that is highly consequential. Let me say |
| 1:53.7 | congratulations. And let me start. But before we dive into constitutional law and what's happening |
| 2:01.8 | in the country, let me just ask you, how has it been a dad? It is so great. I appreciate your |
