I couldn't really care. I was so dumb with middle weight at that point that I think I woke

up that morning and I was eight ounces over and I thought like, am I going to lose this

eight ounces? I went down and got on the bike for half an hour, went back up to the

scale and checked myself and I still eight ounces over. And I think you had to sell so

many tickets. I think I end up getting about 350 quid on my 25th birthday and I had a baby

on the way so it was born in August so it was like, what am I doing here?

this day? Hello and welcome back to Boxing Life Stories and we are back with World

Super Middleweight Contender, John Ryder, a fighter's fighter if ever there was one. John's

passion for the sport takes me back to my amateur days and reminds me a lot of many of my

former amateur club mates at Salisbury and Truro and Catskill and he wants to learn, he

wants to get better, he's still a fan of the sport and he seems to love the work and

being in the gym and just around the sport in general. He is of course with one of the

highest profile camps today with Tony Sims. You can find my interview with Tony Sims in

the archives and he's working alongside the likes of Felix Cash, Joe Cordina, Connor

Ben and many more and we spoke actually around, we spoke over the phone around the time of

his fight with Danny Jacobs and it got me thinking that I'd like to do a deeper dive into

John's career with him so I'm pleased to be able to bring this to you now. I really

enjoyed this with John, he's probably the sort of guy you'd want to be mates with, easy

going and affable and I wish him well moving forwards, whatever his next move may be.
