Outside the castle of Martell, a group of mourners walk beside the body of their Lord.

The corpse has been embalmed and anointed with holy oil, and it's wrapped in a shroud.

The smell of perfumes and herbs masks the stench of decomposing flesh.

Several days have passed since the death, yet the mourner's grief is still terribly raw,

and the sound they're making is dreadful.

They're lamenting and wailing, tears rolling down their cheeks as they ask God why he has punished them.

Why has he taken this great man?

Perhaps they are, because the guy they're weeping for is, of course, Henry the Young King.

As we heard last time, he died of dysentery in June 1183,

while waging war on his father, Henry II, and his brother, Richard the Lionheart.

That was a war which the Young King provoked, and which he proved unable to stop once it ran out of control.
