My name is Brandon Galey and welcome to episode 74 of the blog millionaire.

Did you know most of your content is getting ignored by people that

are coming to your blog post? A study by the Nilsson Norman group found on average that only

30% of the words are actually getting read. You might think that your visitors read in a standard

left to right pattern that you learned in school, but they actually read

in an F pattern. The top portion of the F makes up the title of the blog post and the first

couple sentences of the introduction. After that, visitors scanned the left side of the page

looking for headings and anything else that jumps out of them. Another study found that

70% of viewing time is spent on the left hand side of the page versus 30% on the right hand side

of the page. When I looked at multiple F-shaped heat map studies, it is clear that visitors switch

back and forth between scanning mode and reading

mode. If a visitor hits something that interests them, then they will stop skimming and start reading.

Since we know how the majority of visitors consume or blog post, we can now devise a clear

strategy to stop skimmers dead in their tracks.
