This is VEEP. Welcome to Improper Humans with Matt Besser. That's me. Folks, it's a very special, special, special version of Improper Humans. It's going to be a musical version. That's where the inspiration is going to come from.

1:15.9

Today usually I get your suggestions at Matt Besser. Not today. Don't go to the Twitter party at Matt Besser today. It's all coming from music. Guess what? We have Bobby Matthews here from Drag Goon, the house band of Improper Humans, the official house band. Live here in the studio. Welcome, Bobby.

1:35.9

Hey, thank you. Thank you, Matt Besser. Yeah. It's weird to hear you say my last name. Scott Rogers here. One of my favorite musical buddies. Oh, thank you. Hi. From Freak Dance. We've collaborated on other various stage projects. Sean Conroy. Always a guy of known to love musicals. Yes, Matt Besser. Matthew Gregory Besser. Gregory.

2:04.9

I do. I love musicals. Is that weird? No. You love musicals? I know. You you strike me as a person like myself who people might not think correct likes musicals yet does. Did you perform in musicals when you were younger? No. Never. I only did one play. Bobby used to do musicals all the time. The Christian young life would do it. The Christians would do it. But not let the one you in town be part of it. They didn't want you there. No, they wanted to crucify me in Jesus Christ superstar. But it was

2:34.9

not even in the play. I don't think. Is that the play? Do they crucify someone in that? If Jesus Christ is involved, there's probably a crucifixion in Jesus Christ superstar. Yeah, I believe it's a big. I don't think like lift them up on the cross at the end. I've never seen that musical. I've only seen the movie version of it when I was. I'm surprised you didn't do it. You do God spell. Didn't you guys do any of that? No, we did. We did. It's a little on the roof. That's ironic.

3:05.1

You guys must have just left. You were like born to play the fiddler over. They brought me in for a dialect coaching. Can we get better for tevja?

3:13.9

He knows all about locks and bagels. Bring him in. Mike still is here. Hello. He's on our. He's one of our big musical improvisers. Big. But you are. You've done a lot of shows. Yeah, totally with diamond lion. You're part of diamond lion. New York and LA.

3:33.9

Although, you know, I think they go by different name in New York now. But we do. Yeah, every Friday, 11. Everyone's what I did. It was so fun. Yeah, we did it together. It was great. Yeah, Sean's great. No, I don't know about that. Wonderful. You're amazing. Beautiful voice. Do you notice that that musical improv gets greater appreciation in the regular improv? One of the nice things about musical improv is that no matter what

4:03.9

you have a big climax to the scene, even if like the song kind of sucks. And it's not a great climax. There's some sort of climax to the scene. I mean, I guess you can still have songs that kind of like fizzle off. But at least you're being played out in a scene. It doesn't just go like, you know, kind of a slow death.

4:22.9

I think most of my songs fizzled out that night that I did. What were some of the songs that you did? What were some of the songs? Well, there was no right. I'm here. I am in the shower and I got to get to work. Oh, yeah. Classic.

4:33.2

The other thing about musical improv is that people's minds are always blown. Absolutely. If you can rhyme a word. If you just rhyme a word, people are like, holy shit. It's Wayne Brady, the best improviser in the world.

4:47.8

Because of his musical improv. Yeah, because I mean, he's probably universally known as like if you just talk to him, if you stopped a person on the street and said name the an improviser, just an improviser.

5:01.8

Odds are he's coming up one at a two times. I think maybe every time. Yeah, probably, right? He was the first one I first watched. Who's line? It was like, who is that guy? He's that new guy. He was the British one.

5:14.8

Who's line is it? And who is that guy? What's the deal with this guy? So he's that guy with the lines. He's one of the few improvisers that just tucks in his shirt with confidence. No, slim. You're saying he's very slim. He's a fit improviser. I think that's what it is. And I'm thinking, I don't think any of us tuck in our shirts. No, but I thought I should. I haven't tucked in my shirts since 1987. Thank you.

5:43.8

We used to use the regular administration. Well, folks, we're not doing musical improv on today's show. We might. I'm not going to stop that.

5:51.8

Certainly Mike still. If you want to climax a scene by popping in at some improv. I mean, improvise musical. I would love that sincerely. Or if Bob, you want to start playing along at some point. Let's do that. But that wasn't the plan per se.

6:06.8

The plan is to play music and then have that inspire the scenes. So if we can jump into the scenes right after song, let's do it. If someone has an idea off of the song directly, odds are that may not happen. And we may have to discuss the song probably.

6:21.8

Get a little deeper into it. Either Bobby's going to tell us what his songs are about. Or we're going to play some cover songs and just ponder their meanings. But Bobby, once you get us started, sure. This is a song of mine called inpatient. I'm going to play you part of it.

6:35.8

First first to be exact. Just get to it. Okay.

6:38.8

I was told when you were young that you couldn't wait till the supper was done. But it's true.
