True independence in the world of filmmaking is very rare.

The battle to get films before an audience is complicated at best,

and in today's world to get an independent cinematic voice

onto cinema screens in a world of Marvel universes

is easier said than done.

Creative concessions are the order of the day when realizing

the vision of an artist onto the screen can cost millions,

or even hundreds of millions of investors dollars,

and they are at stake.

Studio movies run through a gauntlet of studio executives

with their notes, and the effect is to stand off the rough edges

to make the final product easier to go down

to the widest audience possible.
