Thanks for listening and enjoy. I'm Taylor. And I'm Tyler. This is Scripture Central's Come Follow Me Insights. Today, 1 Corinthians chapter 14 through 16.

This particular set of chapters is interesting because chapter 14 is a build-off of what we covered a little bit in chapter 12 with the idea of the gifts of the spirit and he he really

zeroes in on two gifts in particular the gift of speaking in tongues and and by default the gift of

interpretation of tongues as well as the gift of prophecy so if you've ever ever wondered why we don't spend more time and energy and effort in our

church focusing on this speaking of tongues, this evangelical perspective of what they call

glossolalia. It's this manifestation of speaking in a heavenly tongue.

Chapter 14 really gives more details as to why that isn't as big of an emphasis to us, besides the

fact that in the early days of the church in Curtland, Ohio and some of the

surrounding areas, some of those earliest members of the church within a year, two, they were

taking the speaking and tongue things to a whole new level, and Joseph Smith received some direct revelation

about that issue at that time. This verse 9, chapter 14, I'm just jumping ahead. We will get

back to the beginning of the chapter. Paul says, likewise, except ye utter by the tongue,

words easy to be understood. How shall be known what is spoken? For you should speak

into the air. So let's just talk for just brief moment. The gifts of the spirit are intended

to bless other people, to help them feel God's love, and to see his hand in their lives.

Some people have seen the gifts of the Spirit as an expression of,

I now have God's Spirit with me. So how would I prove that God's Spirit is with me, but

in expressing a gift of the Spirit? And you got to imagine for the ancient people, it was

really unusual for somebody to, out of nowhere, speak a foreign

language and to be understood. The idea was, only a God could do that. And so if you have God
