0:00.0 | Welcome back to another episode of five minutes in church history. On this episode we are on location in a fascinating place, the scriptorium. |
0:08.0 | This is located right in Orlando, the scriptorium. Central Florida is known for its amusement parks. |
0:15.7 | Well, this is an amusement park for Bible geeks, for church history geeks. |
0:21.8 | So I think we've come to the right place here at the |
0:24.7 | scriptorium. We're going to start with Charles Hadn's Spurgeon. Spurgeon is no |
0:30.5 | stranger to five minutes in church history. We talk about him almost as much as we can. |
0:36.4 | And what I am holding in my hand right now is an actual letter from Spurgeon. In fact, I'm looking |

1:07.5 | Must have not been feeling well prior to this, |

1:22.3 | Well, actually, the bulk of these letters that I'm looking at are |
1:26.3 | concerning Spurgeon's orphanage and these letters also says, I owe you many things. |
1:35.0 | And so one of these letters he says, I owe you many thanks for your very kind gift to the orphanage. And then he says, and for your good advice. |
1:47.0 | However, I know not how to follow. Well, I'm intrigued. There are other letters that just reference gifts and |
1:55.4 | then there's this short note who was written on September 12, 1890, and it just |
2:01.3 | simply says, dear sir, alas, the child is dead. |
