However, the film underwent creative retooling after the firing of star Melissa Barrera and the departure of Jenna Ortega in late 2023, with Landon also leaving the project. In March 2024, Campbell confirmed her return to the franchise after being absent from the last film, with series creator Kevin Williamson hired to direct the film after serving as writer and producer on the early films in the series.
