Summary

Hillsdale College Radio General Manager and Radio Free Hillsdale Hour host Scot Bertram fills in for Jim on Thursday’s 3 Martini Lunch. Join Scot and Greg as they assess the Supreme Court's ruling on Planned Parenthood and your tax dollars, a radical government overhaul proposal from a Democratic congressman, and whether the Democrats will mimic Mamdani in the 2026 midterms and beyond.

First, they discuss the U.S. Supreme Court’s 6-3 decision allowing South Carolina to exclude Planned Parenthood from where it spends Medicaid dollars. Scot and Greg react to the decision, explain why it makes sense, and note the incredibly biased way these politically-charged rulings are covered in the media.

Next, they shake their heads as Illinois Rep. Sean Casten proposes adding 12 at-large U.S. Senate seat decided in a national popular vote, which would also add 12 votes to the Electoral College. He also wants to increase the U.S. House of Representatives by 250 seats, and "rebalance" the Supreme Court by creating a "13-judge multi-circuit panel" that would decide any cases where the U.S. government or a federal agency is a party.

Finally, they spotlight the Democrats who avoided Zohran Mamdani’s extremism before the election but now rush to align with him. Scot and Greg explore whether Mamdani’s far-left agenda will become a blueprint for Democrats heading into the 2026 midterms and beyond.

As you know, Jim Garrity is away.

Here in his place today is Scott Bertram.

the Radio Free Hillsdale Hour, and wasn't that special, 50 years of Saturday Night Live. Scott,

happy start to the summer. Thanks for being with us today.

0:41.3

Unfortunate start to the summer, Greg. It's been very temperate up here in Michigan, which

0:44.7

makes me very happy, and all of a sudden it's 98 in humid this week. So I'm not happy about that,

0:49.3

but I'm still here for you. Thank you, sir. Well, yeah, there are some days like that in Michigan and they're not pleasant, but hopefully

0:57.7

they're few and far between this summer because the summer's up there are amazing.

But today was supposed to be the controversial decision day at the Supreme Court.

1:05.9

I think for the most part that day has been shifted to tomorrow, but we did get one significant

1:09.6

decision there as it relates to Planned Parenthood funding at the state level. This is the USA Today version of the

1:17.2

story, but as I mentioned to Scott in our organizing email today, you could be forgiven if you

1:23.3

thought that this was written by Planned Parenthood. But here's how it goes. An ideologically divided Supreme Court on June 26th sided with South Carolina in its effort to deprive

1:33.8

Planned Parenthood of public funding, a decision that is likely to prompt other GOP-led states to

1:38.8

take similar action against a health care organization under attack for providing abortion services.
