The Supreme Court has decided a major case that could have implications in the nationwide battle for redistricting ahead of the midterms.

The conservative majority voted six to three to toss out a congressional map in Louisiana that was drawn in early 2024 that

added a second black and democratic lawmaker to the state's overwhelmingly Republican delegation.

CNN legal analyst Joey Jackson says this ruling will limit the reach of the Voting Rights Act

of 1965 and make it harder for plaintiffs to challenge future maps for racial discrimination.

It's always been thought, right? When you do things that are based specifically when you're trying to address racial discrimination and perhaps disparities in voting,

that that would meet the standard of a compelling objective.

But you see based upon this six to three conservative majority that that is no more.

And it may have, and I think it will have an impact specifically on the African-American community in terms of diluting power if you're not allowed to affirmatively as a state legislature create districts that are majority minority districts.

And that's so problematic, I think.

The ruling comes amid a flurry of mid-decade redistricting in multiple states,

where both parties have tried to redraw maps hoping to get an advantage in this year's midterms.

Former FBI director James Comey is expected to turn himself in at federal court in the Eastern District of Virginia today. That's according to a federal official familiar

with this case. The move comes in response to the new indictment over an Instagram post

Comey shared last year showing shells on a beach that spelled out 86-47.

The Justice Department views that as a potential threat to kill or do harm to President Donald Trump.

This has a recent slang. The number 86 can refer to getting rid of or tossing something out.

Trump, of course, is currently the 47th president. Comey took down the post hours later and apologized, saying he didn't know some people associate

the number 86 with a call from violence.
