The Supreme Court released a major opinion this morning about Colorado's ban on so-called conversion therapy for gay and transgender youth.

CNN Chief Legal Affairs correspondent Paula Reid has more.

In the decision we got just a few moments ago, we really didn't get a final answer on whether

this law is constitutional, but we did get some insight into what the justices are thinking.

So instead of making a final ruling, they are taking this entire case and throwing it back

down to the lower court saying that it needs to be reviewed this question with a heightened level of scrutiny.

So while the state of Colorado is not really officially losing, it is likely that once this

goes through another round of litigation and this issue comes back up, that this law very likely

will be struck down on First Amendment grounds.

LGBTQ advocates say this is yet another setback for their cause that could be felt in nearly

half the country in states that have similar bans.

Conversion therapy has been scientifically debunked, and research shows the practice can increase

a person's risk of suicide and cause other long-term health problems, such as depression,

anxiety, and high blood pressure.
