Scottish Labour is back,

running a majority of 9,000 in the Rutherland,

and Hamilton West by election,

overturning what had been an SNP majority of 5,000.

I am Fraser Nelson and I'm joined by Ian McQuart out at Edinburgh

and Katie Balls in London. Ian, talk us through what has just happened.

For once, the term seismic actually does measure up to the significance of this

by-election. Now, of course, the SNP is only one by-election,

a special one because Margaret Ferrier,

their MP, remember, was sacked and removed in a recall ballot

because she brought COVID rules. But nevertheless,

there's no way you can spin this.

It's hugely significant. 20% swing to Labour.
