Summary

There aren't too many marathoners out there who are training at a high level for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials and still chasing the dream of breaking four minutes for the mile. Meet Scott Smith of Northern Arizona Elite. The 2:14 marathoner joins the podcast ahead of his race at the Frankfurt Marathon. He has not raced a marathon since the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials in February 2016, where he finished 14th overall. He discusses how he felt about that performance and moved forward from it. Smith seems to love tough and warm marathons with two 26.2 races in Los Angeles and a steamy world championships in Beijing in 2015. He expresses his optimism for cool and fast conditions in his next race. Fun topics include his brother's pursuit of a 3:30 marathon without running more than five miles at a time, Thank You Meb, California high school track, Game of Thrones/TV binging and more. He's thought long and hard about the 25 shots from halfcourt/25 years in prison question and his answer is great. This episode was brought to you by ROLL Recovery. It's less than two weeks until I towed the starting line at the New York City Marathon,

and that puts me about six weeks removed from the Berlin Marathon where I had an

I SLPR and so the recovery process has been super important. I've been using a

bunch of roll recovery products to help me get to the starting line in one piece.

Here's why I think you should be on board with

him too. A couple years back, Render Jeremy Nelson came up with the idea for these

now famous rollers, pretty much took the best part of massages, foam rollers, and

put them all into one product.

0:33.4

First thing he wanted to do was, you know, put the massage force into a roller.

0:37.8

We've got all these other foam rollers out there that are boring.

This one gets in there nice and deep. It also fits all body sizes, hits key muscle groups.

0:45.4

It's got a nice flushing effect that moves blood, tissue, and waste products all to

the needed spots. And most importantly I think it's portable. I was able to pack it up with me to go to Berlin.

0:55.6

I've used it in my carry-on to get to races in Chicago. No more hauling around this big piece of foam with you.

1:02.1

This one is super easy to carry around and gets to places real easy.

1:06.7

I might have to ask and answer a question to you as to what it is because it looks a little funky, but I like it and it's worth, you know, little conversation.

1:14.6

who knows.

1:15.6

Maybe your TSA agent will get his own R8.

1:19.2

The R8 is my favorite and I use it after workouts sometimes before I go to bed. The R3 is a nice little

addition that I have when I am typing away at another story at my desk. So check
