Summary

"Somebody tragically killed him. We don't know who, we don't know why."

At approximately 5:30 PM on 17 January 2020, authorities were called out to an apartment in Ballston, a Virginia neighborhood on the outskirts of Washington D.C. There, a young man had been discovered bloodied in his bedroom, and was believed to have gone into cardiac arrest. By the time medics arrived at the scene, however, the victim was already dead of an apparent homicide.

Later, it would come to light that 24-year-old Scott Ratigan's potential killer had prepared extensively beforehand, donning dark clothing and a facial covering before arriving at the scene. Surveillance footage would capture some of this individual's movements in the time surrounding this crime, including their unusual manner of walking...

1:12.9	The sister, also a young adult, had some friends in town visiting for the long weekend, and
1:18.2	tried to rouse her brother from inside his bedroom that afternoon.
1:22.1	When he failed to respond, she opened the door to his room and found
1:25.2	him. A call to 911 followed immediately thereafter. A press release from the Arlington County
1:31.5	police department would read as follows.
1:34.0	Upon arrival, an adult male victim was located deceased inside a residence.
1:39.0	Cause of death will be determined by the office of the chief medical examiner.
1:43.4	This remains an active criminal investigation and the preliminary investigation has not
1:48.3	revealed an immediate threat to the community.
1:51.8	A follow-up statement the following Tuesday would confirm this death as the first
1:56.2	homicide of the year for the Arlington County PD. Following an autopsy by
