early evening Christmas Eve 2002, Modesto, California.

Whilst most families across America were settling in for one of the most exciting and harmonious nights of the year,

an unsettling sequence of events that would go on to captivate a nation for decades was just getting underway.

A seven-and-a-half-month pregnant, 27-year-old woman by the name of Lacey Peterson, mysteriously

vanished from her home amidst the backdrop of Christmas lights and festive decorations.

Her abrupt disappearance provoked an intense search and rescue operation, making headlines and filling news stations across the country, all whilst her family, friends, and the general public, hoped desperately for a safe return.

As a new year arrived, with Lacey still missing, the spot likely turned to her husband, Scott, whose actions and behaviors were raising increasingly troubled questions.

And, as the investigation unfolded,

the suspicions of an entire nation
