You know we were fighting five, six, seven times a day in direct contact with a very well-trained enemy force.

I mean, it wasn't a matter of if we were going to get in a firefight that day, it was when and how often and for how long some lasting up to five hours where we're

slinging lead for that long it's I tell you for me and for the Marine Corps in

general it really redefine what we knew about urban

fighting.

enlisted and officer in the Marine Corps.

So I half trust you, I guess, right?

But you started enlisted, that's the important part. Yeah, you don't go back.

I think the other way.

Could you get demoted?

I think you can only get demoted back to first one.

Never demoted. Yeah.

But I did. I spent just over four years enlisted and then even when I was in college I stayed in the reserves as a machine gunner just to stay tied to you know do and then I had no intention to going

back on active duty but a young sergeant gave me a phone call his name was

Sergeant Connor I still remember his name out of Champaign, Illinois, and offer me a great opportunity and you know some 24 years later, the rest is history.

What was the, what was the opportunity? Well I was planning on going to work for US

federal marshals some sort of federal law enforcement and he called me up I had

submitted a package that they have a program where you can go during two

summers and then get your commission. But I was like, was it called Green to Gold or some

bullshit? That's the, yeah, the Army term. This program is one of several commission programs the Marine Corps has it's called the platoon leaders course where you go to
