Hello everyone and welcome to Talk Nurdy. It's Monday November 28th and I'm your

host Kara Santa Maria. So I'm not sure if I mentioned this but last weekend

was the second annual psychom camp. Now this is a weekend-long retreat that a couple of friends of mine and I,

Jason Goldman, Sarah Curtis, and I started two years ago, so this was our second one, and it's an opportunity

for science communicators of all Stripes to take a weekend to get to know one another, to network, to learn from one another, and

really just make new friends in their field. You know, a lot of us are freelancers, so we work from home, we don't often get a chance to work together.

But some people who go to Saikom Camp are career professionals who actually work in offices.

They may work at NASA. They may work at

universities in the outreach department or even within their own

lab and they just want to improve their ability to communicate their own

science. So it's a super cool event.

You get to meet people of all different stripes

from people who are just starting out in their careers,

graduate students, or recent grads,

all the way up to people who have doing it for decades and

decades. I was really excited because one of my good friends who I've known for

many years Brian Mallow was in attendance. Now he is a science communicator now, but he's not a scientist. He's actually a stand-up comedian and more recently his comedy has sort of morphed into this

sciency comedy that he actually can use to help train other science

communicators with better stage presence and feeling more confident in their communication

skills.

I am super excited because he was able to chat with me after the weekend and I am going
