There are many scientists, philosophers, who've talked about this concept of a multiverse,

0:05.0

but this is a very strict, very sober understanding of what a multiverse is.

0:09.0

All of these universes in this multiverse obey the same laws of physics.

0:12.9

We're not talking about universes where there are other laws of physics.

0:16.8

This should be no more surprising than historically when it used to be thought

0:20.4

to be the universe consisted of our planet and around our planet,

0:24.1

orbit it everything else.

0:25.4

Other planets, stars, the sun, the moon, orbit it around us.

0:28.9

It exists on this tiny planet.

0:30.4

Then our vision of reality got expanded a little bit.

0:33.5

We realized, in fact, we were not at the center of the universe.

0:36.7

The sun was at the center, and these other planets were, in fact, bigger,

0:40.5

in some cases, in the case of Jupiter and Saturn and the gas giants,

0:43.6

bigger than what our planet Earth is.

0:45.7

The sun was a lot bigger than what we are, so our universe became larger.

0:49.3

Then we realized that we were just one star system among many

0:52.4

and a huge galaxy of hundreds of billions of stars.

0:55.9

Then later we realized that this galaxy is one of hundreds of billions of galaxies.

1:00.0

The history of ideas and the history of science is a history of us

1:05.2

broadening our vision of exactly how large physical reality is.

1:09.6

This is another step in that general trend.

1:12.4

We should expect it to continue.
