Gunfire brings calls for unity on Capitol Hill.

An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us. That was House Speaker Paul

Ryan after a shooting spree targeting Republicans practicing for a charity baseball game this

morning in Northern Virginia. Majority whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana is out of surgery. For other

people also were injured, the lone gunman was killed.

We'll hear what happened at the scene, as both parties call for unity at least for the moment.

When they get back to business as usual, can Democrats formulate a common strategy for the upcoming elections?

I'm Warren Allene. Back with To The Point. In Virginia's Democratic primary for governor yesterday, a candidate of the liberal wing was soundly defeated by a party regular.

We'll look at the potential consequences as voters for change in the party challenge the status quo.

First, as news update, Republican Majority Whips, Steve's Collise of Louisiana, is in critical condition

after being shot during a blaze of gunfire this morning during a practice for a charity baseball game. His colleague, Jimmy Duncan

of Tennessee, was on the field left early, says he encountered the shooter. I did have an interaction

with someone in the parking lot who asked me if the team practicing was a Democrat or Republican

team. I told him they were Republicans. He said, okay, thanks, turned around. I got in the car and left,

find out that my Republican colleagues were targeted by an active shooter today.

Charles Fleischman of Tennessee was walking in from left field. He heard shots, died behind

home plate, and then jumped into the first base dugout. When I got in the dugout, I realized
