And this is a script note sidecast, a short episode about one thing.

Today I want to talk about the AMPTPs assertion that they're the ones that are soldering all

the risk when it comes to making a movie or a series, and that they're for they should

be receiving all the reward.

So you're referring to the AMPTPs response to SAGS 12-page summary of where they left

off negotiations.

Specifically the part about success-based residuals and the quote is, the union is proposing

that performers share in the rewards of a successful show without bearing any of the risk.

The whole thing has this feeling of, oh heavens, the very idea, you'll give me the vapors.

And we'll put a link in the show notes.

So my first instinct is to say whatever, ignore it, because of course the AMPTP is going

to claim that something is unreasonable or impossible.

But this idea that the studios are taking all the risk is so dangerous, so insidious,

that I want to take a few minutes to make sure we kill it dead, and to make sure that

our listeners can recognize it in all its permutations and be ready with a wooden stake

should it appear anywhere in their field of vision.

So you're saying it's a vampire and you need a wooden stake.

Drew, I think you might, because it's the kind of thing that could rise up if you don't

kill it properly.
