Welcome to Storyworthy. My name is Christine Blackburn, and I'm here with Hanna Spiney, and we're coming to you from the grounds of Summerfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

This is like one of your favorite places of all times.

It is one of my favorite places.

Of course, we always come from Milwaukee when possible, but I'm sure that our guest knows why we're coming from summer.

This is where George Carlin was famously arrested for doing his seven dirty words. He can't say on television routine. Right. That was 1972. Such a proud moment. And here's something I've never said to you, Christine, because when have we ever discussed this? I remember this because I saw it. You saw it live? No, I saw it. No, I saw it. Now, I was a small child. And I was,

Summerfest at that time was basically, it wasn't as organized as is now. It's just a big

outdoor festival. And so I can remember very distinctly because I always loved comedy even

as a small child being on a bluff over looking like Yershigan. I wasn't in the audience. I was up

on the bluff looking down at the audience. I could see the stage. I could hear George Carlin.

Wow. I don't remember him saying anything. I'm sure I didn't sit there for an hour and listen, but I was like 10, and I was like, that's George Carlin. And then I had to go home. So it's like, and then the next day, I'm like, this is bizarre. So I am as close to. But what did you think was bizarre? The fact that they would arrest a man for saying this words?

Yeah.

So even at 10 years old, I was like, wait a minute, you hired the guy to do comedy. Right. You know who he is. Right. He's famous. And then you're like, how dare you do exactly what you do professionally? Right. And, you know, it's like, uh. And so those were the seven words you can never say on television.

Shit, piss, fuck, cuck, cuck, cuck, cuck, it's like, uh. And so those were the seven words you can never say on television.

Shit, piss, fuck, cuck, cuck, sucker, motherfucker, and tits. Right. Now, you know, it's, it's down to at least six, because tits, you can, I've heard that on TV. Yeah, and I think you can say piss. You're right. So it's down to five. You might even be able to say shit. basic cable yes you can okay we're down to four all right ladies and gentlemen this is exciting and the reason

why we're talking about four. All right, ladies and gentlemen, this is exciting.

And the reason why we're talking about George Carlin. I want to open a cable channel where you only say those four words over and over again. Throwing out the George Carlin references is because today we have Kelly Carlin on the show. And I'm so excited. I know. She is fantastic. She is a person in her own right. She's an amazing writer and a performer.
