Hi listeners, we're doing something a little bit different today the American poet Louise Glick who won the Nobel Prize back in 2020 has passed away at the age of 80 and she is something of a house favorite here.

If you have ever heard me and Jeff refer to joking around about poets being in therapy

talking about how they couldn't make tomato plants grow and you didn't know what we were talking about.

That was a reference to the episode we recorded right after Glick won the Nobel and we had taken some time to,

for me, read her work for the first time and for Jeff, revisit it.

It was one of my favorite projects that we've done for this podcast in the last 10 years,

and while we are very sad to have lost Louise Glick, we're so grateful that we had a chance

to reflect on her work together and to have what has become a really memorable conversation.

So before we jump in, I'm going to read to you the poem Vespers from her collection, The Wild Iris.

It's the one with the tomato plants in it.

And then we'll jump into the episode we recorded back in October of 2020, so that you all can revisit and appreciate Louise Glick with us.
