We give you some context and we help each other understand.

Today we say goodbye to Samsung messages and congratulations to RCS on its complete victory.

0:22.8

Hey, congrats RCS. I'm Tom Merritt.

0:25.4

And I'm Rob Dunwood.

0:26.4

Let's start with what you need to know with that big story.

0:31.1

Hat tip to RW Nash, who noted this on our DTNS subreddit, Samsung posted an end-of-service announcement on its website,

0:39.4

saying that Samsung messages, the app, will be discontinued in July, 2026, and they encourage

0:46.8

users to switch over to Google Messages as their default messaging app. Support for Samsung

0:51.6

messages on Android 11 and earlier will continue after July.

0:57.6

So most people have to switch, but if you're really using an old phone with an old

1:28.4

app to tell you the exact day. But I think they're trying to get everybody to just switch over

1:33.2

to Google messages before that. Rob, have you been using Samsung messages? Have you ever used

1:39.5

Samsung messages? So I did use Samsung messages at one point. But this was years ago back when Google didn't know what it wanted to do from a messaging standpoint. And they had 19 different apps. And the best ones weren't the ones that, you know, that they went with. And they kept changing the names. They just kept changing the name and all the kind of stuff. So so there was a time when it just kind of made sense, well, this Samsung one just works or this Verizon one just works but pretty much since since Google has said we're going to use messages

2:06.9

we're going to put RCS in that and that's what we're going with I have been standardized on just

2:11.3

the plain Google messages or just messages as Google calls it so as you said I, I am an S-25 user. I didn't even realize
